If the calibration ever gets over or under by 1.40 points or more the calibration software of the meter will pick up the next solution value. Therefore neutral PH will read as 9.86 and 4.01 will read as neutral, and the reverse is true if it goes the other way. It is a glaring design flaw as this does not have a factory reset nor a manual calibration option. Neither the manufacturer nor the sellers of this item on multiple platforms will accept responsibility for their flaw. Either buy a cheaper disposable PH pen or spend a little more on a reputable company as this mid-range priced product proves to be less reliable than the cheapest 10 dollar meter that has a manual calibration option.

I bought this ph meter for indoor hydroponics. Calibration was simple and straight forward. The meter was easy to use and seemed accurate and consistent. Much better than the cheap $10 meters.

I ended up breaking the glass electrode 2 months after purchase… (the probe is nicely protected but i still managed to smack it against a hard surface) I emailed the manufacturer looking to purchase a replacement electrode. They answer quickly and said they can’t supply a replacement part but would like to send me a brand new replacement meter, for free, no questions asked. (just needed the original order number) Now that is great customer service. I’ll look into dr.meter for any future needs before i go elsewhere.

I bought this after burning through several of the cheapo “yellow” pen-type meters (the rectangular ones, sold under a dozen brand names, that all look alike.) Those simply stop working after a few months, not counting the ones that don’t work right out of the box. They’re basically semi-disposable, but the cost of buying replacements adds up quickly.
This meter is solidly built, and it’s holding up really well. In use, it settles down to a steady reading pretty quickly, without drifting or bouncing readings. Calibration is a bit more of a bother, with three different standards needed, one of them being pH 9.18 rather than the usual 10.0 standard. WIth that done, however, this meter makes its own temperature corrections – and it doubles as a thermometer, very handy if you need to collect that bit of data as well as the pH. The cap for the electrode seals with an O-ring, so it’s easier to keep the bulb hydrated, which may account in part for the longer operating life.
